Performers rights has rapidly developed over the last 50 years,
Grew up around copyrighted works and provide similar rights
to performing artistes in their performance.
Legal Rights Grant to Performers
In August 2000, pursuant to the Copyright Amendment Act 2000,
The Copyright Act 1987, was amended to confer a new right
known as “PERFORMERS RIGHT” to performers.
Under the new section 16B of the Copyright Act 1987, the
following is provided for:
1. Sound recording is published for commercial purpose
2. Such recording is:
- publicly performed ; or broadcast.
- communication to the public
3. User of the sound recording shall pay royalties to the performers. |
