THAT’S MY GIRL: Jaclyn giving her mother a big hug upon arrival at the KLIA from Shanghat Saturday night.
PETALING JAYA: As Jaclyn Victor walked out of the KL International Airport arrival hall dressed in a beautiful pink cheongsam, the crowd that gathered to welcome her home cheered.
Jac, as she is more commonly known, returned from Shanghai last night after winning the Golden Prize at the 8th Shanghai Asia Music Awards on Friday.
Her mother Maggie Victor, brother Jullian, friends and fans were waiting with bouquets of roses, a banner and video cameras to give the first Malaysian Idol a hearty welcome.
Generous with her hugs and smiles, a visibly exhausted but jubilant Jac greeted everyone in her newly acquired Mandarin.
“Xie xie ni ... xie xie ni!” she said, thanking those present.
Jac had defeated 22 other contestants, winning over the judges with her rendition of Gemilang and Celine Dion's When I Fall In Love. She received RM19,000, a certificate, a trophy and a Yamaha keyboard in prizes from the competition.
“I am so happy to be able to win this for Malaysia. It's totally different from Malaysian Idol. I was quite nervous as I didn't know how good the others were. And it was so cold in Shanghai, " she added.
It was the first international competition she took part in since winning the Malaysian Idol competition last October.
Said a beaming Maggie: “I've always been proud of her, and I will always be proud of her.
