First of all, PRISM would like to thanks YB Datuk Haji Mohd Shafie Apdal, the Minister of MTDCA, for taking valuable time off from his busy schedule to official this history moment.

PRISM would also like to take the opportunity to thank Dato’ A Rahman Hassan, the Chairman and all other council member of Malaysia Music Council for the initiative of setting up PRISM. Public Performance Malaysia (PPM) for the co-operation and kind assistant to collect the royalty on our behalf.

PRISM, established year 2001, to protect and enforce  the rights of performers which it represents  after Copyright Amendment Act 2000, the Copyright Act 1987, was amended to confer a new right known as "performers right" to performers.

The main task for PRISM is to collect and distribute compensation for the public use of recorded performance such as public performance of audio visual sound recordings, as well as broadcast music.

In the beginning, PRISM faced lot of difficulties such as limited protection rights given and only representing local performers. In the middle year of 2003 PRISM get ratified in the International with the support of International Societies Council (SCAPR). PRISM signed bilateral agreement with foreign societies to represent their performers members in Malaysia.

Today 28 January 2005,after 2 years hard works, the 1st  Distribution of Performers Royalty 2004 ceremony itself is historical as it is a milestone for the Asian music industry, that Malaysia Music Performers received their public performance royalty for the first time. Performers Rights is very new in the Asian Region.
